John Rodge

John Rodge, originally from Llanelli, has lived in Pembrokeshire for 37 years.

He studied Double Bass at the Guildhall College of Music and Drama from 1973 to 1976, and worked as a freelance bass player in London until his return to Wales in 1980.

He was a peripatetic teacher in Pembrokeshire until his retirement in 2014, teaching bass and guitar.

John has played the guitar since the age of 9, and returned to this as his principal instrument in 1980.

He has recorded three albums of guitar music featuring many of his own compositions, along with a number of arrangements of Welsh, Irish and Scottish folk tunes.

He lists as his musical influences, classical, folk, jazz and blues. Elements of all these can be found in his compositions.

As well as being a soloist, John is a member of a number of bands and ensembles, including Symphony Sid and the Swing Kings, a nine-piece functions band, and a jazz trio featuring Mark Jones on piano, and Chris Ryan on saxes and clarinet.

John is also a highly experienced teacher of guitar and bass.
